HOW DO I GET ON THE BUDDY LIST?
The mission of the Buddy Trip is to create an atmosphere of fishing fun and social interaction. Many of the people in the Buddy Trip Group are expert anglers and are always willing to share their expertise with the novice or newbie fisherman. The evening cocktail hour and dinner allows for us to get to know one another as well as to include spouses/significant others in the mix. We all get to be comfortable and evolve into the Buddy Trips family.
All of the Buddy Trips are inshore and back water. The boats all start out together in the morning and fish most of the day. If a person has no boat, I try to match him up with a guy that has one. We start out fishing in the morning and come back to the dock in late afternoon to clean the boats and the fish. In the evening, we all meet with our spouses/significant others for cocktails at 6 PM and dinner at 7 PM at various restaurants on Marco. I encourage people to attend the cocktail/dinner party so that everyone gets to know one another. The group consists of a great bunch of anglers, and we all have a lot of fun.
If you wish to join the Buddy Trip Group I will need to know if you have a boat (what size and type) and what months you are on Marco. Email will be the primary means of contact. You must be a member of MSC in good standing in order to join the Buddy Trip Group.
The Buddy List rules are as follows:
1. When you sign up for a trip whether as a captain or crew member you will be emailed the particulars about the trip such as: boat assignments, where to meet, which restaurant for cocktails and dinner, etc. This information usually gets emailed out two days before the trip since there are constant changes. Once you sign up for a trip you are to notify me if you can’t make the trip so that I can place another angler on that boat. If you have already been assigned to a boat, you must also notify the captain.
2. If you sign up for cocktails and dinner and can’t make it let me know ASAP since I give the restaurant a head count. They put on the appropriate number of staff and purchase food according to the number that I give them.
3. As soon as you are assigned to a boat call or email your captain to get directions to his dock and what time to meet. Also discuss the arrangements for the purchase of bait and ice. At the end of the trip don’t embarrass your captain by making him ask you for your share of the expenses. This usually runs about $25 to $30 per angler. When one considers the cost of the boat, insurance, maintenance, bait, ice, and fuel this is a bargain basement contribution. Again, please don’t embarrass your captain.
4. Don’t forget to bring your lunch, drinks (no alcohol) sunscreen, hat, and fishing tackle. You will also need to bring your fishing license or proof of age if you are a Florida resident over 65.
5. At the end of the trip the captain will provide soap and brushes for cleaning the boat. The captain will assign crew members tasks such as boat cleaning and/or fish cleaning.
The Buddy List contains the names of some expert fishermen. While I don’t consider myself an expert I can answer many of your questions. If I don’t know the answer to a question, I will refer it to one of our experts. If you need advice on bait, jigs, bottom rigs, popping corks, or any fish related matters just ask.
If you decide to join the Buddy List, you will meet a great bunch of people and have a great time.
If you have any questions about the Buddy List, just ask.
