Monster Black Drum caught at Caxambas!
It may not meet MSC rules because I only had a yardstick. I guess I need a
longer measuring board? This fish was 40 pounds plus and solidly buried my
    35 lb boga grip.

Pete, last Friday I was fishing recreationally with some buddies on some bottom 18 miles out. Mostly fishing for snapper and kings with live pilchards.

Put 3 kings in the box and this surprise 25 lb Blackfin!!

Can it go on the leader board since I was fishing recreationally??      Best-Sam Young

The river these fish were taken is called the Tsiu River. It is about half way between Yakutat and Cordova on the Alaska's coast. I've fished here off and on for the last 23 years and will be guiding there for part of the 2016 Silver season.

Picture from unidentified angler -March, 2015
These photos are from the MSC charter aboard Findictive on Monday March 16th.
We started late - 9 AM - due to rough seas. They gradually flattened all day and it turned out to be a very nice day!
We made a bait stop and Captain Mike pulled up a net full of pilchards, then all of a sudden the bait started jumping out of the water trying to get in the boat. Mike tied wire leaders on 6 rods and we baited up with pilchards. In a matter of seconds we had 6 Kings on and they kept biting until we decided to go catch grouper.
We went out to 100 feet and caught a limit of red grouper in less than two hours. most were in the 27-29" range. Richard Chase won the pool with one just under 30".
We stopped at Captain Mike's amberjack spot on the way in and everyone caught at least one "reef donkey", what a fight!!
Got in about 5 PM, watched Mike and Johnas clean the catch - everyone came away with 3 bags of filets.
The MSC club members pictured are Mike Verrastro, John Dolanski, Glenn Herbert, Derrick Raider and Ralph King.

    1. Paul Milici 28 1/4” snook, Jerry Keyes 16 3/4” flounder, Barry French 30 3/4” snook caught 3/19/2015
